I just found a fun new craft. A friend recently put a link to this amazing banana dress on her blog, which is how I was introduced to Dana at MADE and started looking through her tutorials.
Following Dana's instructions, I dyed white onesies with RIT dye, drew a tricycle onto freezer paper with a pencil, cut out the stencil with an exacto blade, ironed it onto the onesie and then used fabric paint to paint in the gaps. It wasn't exactly simple, nor was it a quick procedure, but I think that I love the outcome. And even more than the tricycle onesie, I love that the sky's the limit when it comes to making more... oh, the freedom of making your own stencil!
I dyed a few more onesies in this same dye batch, and I'm wondering what sort of designs to attempt. The blockier the design the better, but other than the simple restrictions that come with the logistics of cutting out paper with an exacto blade, I can do any number of simple graphics.
If you were designing baby clothes, what would you do on the front of a onesie?

wow, you did a fantastic job with that tricycle! Did you design it yourself?
My friend did some of these for her kids: a robot, a little girl and a boy are the images that I can remember her doing. She left the shirts white and used colored paint, though.
I'd probably end up doing one for every holiday throughout their first year! I'm thinking like cookie cutter shapes. :)
